14 Nights & 15 Days camping and lodge safari.

On this Tanzania camping safari, accompanied by a guide and cook/assistant, you travel in a 4×4 vehicle. You’re supplied with insect proof 2,5 m x 2,5m walk-in canvas dome tents, camp beds, mattresses, bedding, table and stools.

Lighting is by kerosene lanterns.  Guides and cooks are experienced professionals. All nights on safari are spent in Tanzania National Parks campsites actually in the parks (unless otherwise specified). All park entry and camp fees are included, as are all meals on this Tanzania camping safari.  Meals normally consist of a cooked breakfast, light lunch, 3 course dinners. Clients are to pay for their own drinks. Meals are cooked on an open fire and served under a mess tent in inclement weather.

Passengers are expected to erect their own tents – which takes 5 minutes – on arrival at camp and dismantle their tents on departure.  The cook/assistant takes care of the balance of the chores. It is important to note that we offer a quality camping product and not a luxury mobile camp. This Tanzania camping safari would appeal to adventurous clients wanting a “close to nature” experience who are used to camping and fairly basic conditions.

DAY 1: ARUSHA

Transferred from the Kilimanjaro International Airport to Arusha town for dinner and overnight at The Outpost Hotel.

DAY 2: TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK.

Early morning breakfast before you get a comprehensive safari briefing. Depart for the Tarangire National Park for an afternoon game drive, including a picnic lunch. Dinner and camping.

The Tarangire ecosystem is the third largest in Tanzania (20 000 sq. km), of which the park occupies 13%.  During the dry season, the park has the second largest concentration of wildlife in Tanzania.  The unique acacia and baobab vegetation provide a home for over 550 bird species, as well as lion, leopard, buffalo, and large herds of elephant, as well as species such as gerenuk, oryx, and eland, rarely seen in the other parks in the North. The Tarangire Wildlife Conservation Area is a joint venture between the local Masai people and the business sector in Tanzania.

The Masai people have allocated large areas adjacent to the park for habitat and game conservation, and they get a direct income from its usage.  We utilize private camping areas with basic facilities. We have the opportunity to go on game/bird walks, and night drives with spotlights, as well as visit authentic Masai villages.

DAY 3, 4 & 5: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK.

Depart your campsite and drive to the Serengeti National Park with a picnic lunch.  You will spend the next three nights camping, including all meals and game drives.

The Serengeti is unequaled for its beauty and contains more than 3 million large mammals all spread over the vast ‘endless plains.  This is home to the annual wildebeest migration, where 1.25 million wildebeest trek in columns of up to 40 km long in search of grazing, drawing with them the predators and numerous other species of game.  From January to March the herds are in the southern area, proceeding north through the Western Corridor over June/July before entering Kenya’s Masai Mara. They return south in November to repeat the whole process.

DAY 6: NGORONGORO CRATER.

Departs your campsite and drives to the Ngorongoro Crater (stop at the Olduvai Gorge en route).  Afternoon game drives with picnic lunch.  Camping on the crater rim with dinner included.

Ngorongoro Crater is one of the wonders of the world.  A large extinct volcano, with an area of 259 sq. km, it contains a huge variety of games and birds.  Access is by 4×4 down the steep 610 meter sides of the crater, from the campsite perched on the crater rim.  A day game viewing in the crater is almost guaranteed to turn up four of the Big Five, as well as zebra, gazelle, warthog, etc., and a rich variety of birds, all viewed against the backdrop of the crater walls.

DAY 7: NGORONGORO CRATER.

Early morning breakfast before you depart on a full-day game drive in the crater, including a picnic lunch.  Return to your campsite for dinner and overnight.
